Check out this episode of the “Reading After Trump” podcast which features a public humanities event I co-organized called “Reading 1984 in 2017: Literary Criticism in the Community.” The event was a collaboration between the Stanford Office of Community Engagement, the Stanford Humanities Center, the Stanford English Department, and Hillsdale High School. Stanford students worked with local high school sophomores to meditate on the import of George Orwell’s 1984 within our current moment. In a final public showcase, held in October 2017, high schoolers performed dramatic interpretations and analyses of key scenes in the novel, in conversation with Stanford English professor and Orwell scholar Alex Woloch.

See more information about the event on the Stanford Humanities Center website.
